C26 – Translational Research in Australia: The journey from bench to bedside

This session will focus on examples of translational research discovered in and currently being developed in Australia with the goal of taking a commercial product to market.  Two Australian startup companies will be profiled with particular focus on their respective journeys from technology discovery through spin out and subsequent entry into clinical trials. This session will explore the inherent challenges in taking a drug or device from the research stage into the clinic including intellectual property protection, financial issues, ethics and governance approvals, regulatory hurdles, manufacturing issues and commencement of clinical trials.
