B4 – Social Media, Ethics and Clinical Trials

The session will include (1) The fundamental principle that people who participate in research projects should be willing and informed participants underpins the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research – but is this still achievable in a social media environment and, if so, how best can we achieve this for clinical trials (2) Through the use of case studies , examine the issues of ethical review as well as consent, privacy and data collection strategies when using Facebook as a research tool.
